I have been thinking about this myself. It is a hard question to answer. I wonder if they will charge him. When you go on a car chase with the police there is always a chance someone can get killed. People just don't expect it to be up in the air. It is a hard decision to make, but I guess I will say I support whatever the police decide to do. He should have taken responsibility for his actions and not put other peoples lives in danger. I hope more people will learn from this. Although, people like that really only care about themselves.

If I cause a wreck while I am watching them clean up another, should the ones in the original wreck be held responsible? I don't think so. No one knows why the helicopters collided other than the pilots were not watching what they were doing. The co-pilots are supposed to be the "eyes" and direct the pilot. Trying to pin it on the guy the cops were chasing is lame. But, this is just my opinion and we all know what those are like.

No.

Media circus put the aircraft in the same area.

Pilot error by one or both caused the crash. Those guys were not rookies and should not have been at the same altitude.

I spent 27 months on an Army Airfield. My CO took us up weekly. Him and the other pilots came down hard when one of their own screwed up and breached safety.

The reason we got to go was to be additional eyes and keep watch for other aircraft. Those guys got us out of the way of fighters doing 500 ground speed.

no. the helicopters were in no way legally required to follow him around. so no absolutely not. not unless he directly caused the crash. if say something happened with the police cars or a police helicopter then yes, he could be charged because their required pursuit put them in danger.

there is no civil case either. the helicopters chose to put themselves in danger when they were not legally required to do so. nothing here, zip, zero, zilch, nada.

he would have had to shoot at the helicopters or something.

Of course he should, this is an "But for" situation! But for this man running from the police the news choppers would not be in the air and would not have collided. Sock it to 'em.
