I was wanting my domain to point to my blog that is located on a different host. I already changed the nameserver in the yahoo domain account. I was wondering How long it would take before it points to my blog? I bought the domain name a few days ago and it says that it is active but I just now set up the nameserver to my host.

DNS changes can take a few hours to 72 hours for the entire internet. They have to get "broadcast" around to all the servers. Sometimes it is very quick for your particular ISP sometimes a little slower Most of the time I see them within 15-24 hours on our ISP. It all depends on how often your ISP updates DNS for you to see the change. Others may see it already. You do need to make an A record on your own host for the domain name to point correctly to your blog (if its only ip based.. if it is virtual you also need to point to the correct directory these settings should be on your panel for your blog.

there are two ways, on both cases you need to know the exact location of your blog: "http//mysite.com/myblog.php" for example.

1.- if the domain you purchased includes hosting, the just create an index.html page that includes a redirect to the "response.redirect" instruction.

2.- if your domain does not include hosting, just change your "A record" either contact tech support with your registrar or if there is a way that you can change it yourself then, you have it man.

the advantages:
redirecting through a html redirect instruction, takes effect instantly, while changing an "A" record sometimes take up to 2 days to propagate.

change the "A" record, or redirecting through the control panel is a more permament solution, and you don't have to pay for hosting.

You have to set a CNAME entry with your domain name provider that points to the URL of your blog.
