Mace is something like a pepper spray to spray in the face of someone who's attacking you. So I guess they either literally mean that they're carrying Mace or figuratively that they're ready for some other kind of attack. Say, if you were expecting someone to attack you verbally, I suppose you might say "I carry Mace" to mean that you're prepared for it. I never heard anyone say that, but that's what it would mean if they used it in that way.

Edit:
To put it another way, figuratively it would mean "I'm ready for anything."

Mace is a substance that's an irritant to the eyes and the respiratory system. It's carried in a spray bottle as a method of protection from an assailant. When attacked, the victim will spray mace, to temporarily deter the attacker long enough for her to get away. An attacker can't pursue a victim when his eyes, nose and mouth are on fire, and he's temporarily blinded. The effects are only temporary, however, and does not leave any lasting harm.

mace is pepperspray. People use it when they are being attacked or followed. you spray into the attacker's eyes to blind them. If they say " i carry mace", that may mean just that (that they carry mace) or you're being annoying and the person is about ready to spray in the face to get you to shut up....i'm sure it's usually the former though. :-D

Um..are you just stupid or really have no idea? Mace...pepper spray. Women (mostly) carry it with them to guard against potential predators. If sprayed in the face, it could temporarily burn/blind her attacker.
