It is like a popular song, played over and over again until all the popular is worn out. Stereotyping is like making judgments that are over blown, ineffective, confusing, careless or just plain boring. Often stereotyping is also vicious as well as totally inappropriate!

A stereotype is when people assume that because someone is from some particular group they must eat such and such, do such and such, have such and such manners, characteristics, intelligence, size, etc. A stereotype can be positive: a specific racial-ethnic group has high intelligence, for instance.
A stereotype is convenient; the problem is, it can stand in the way of different people learning about others.
The most common stereotype is between men and women...

A Stereotype is when you extrapolate negative characteristics of an individual onto a group to which that person is a member.

i.e.: all __(people of a class)______ are __(some negative characteristic such as lazy, slow, ignorant, etc.)_____

After reading my answer, I found it false. You could also positively stereotype people, as well. (All _____ are (rich, beautiful, thin, successful, etc.)

so, a stereotype is actually to extrapolate (ANY) characteristic of an individual onto the entire group to which that person may belong.

My favorite stereo type is Sony, or maybe Kenwood.

The japanese are all really good at making certain things, like stereos and CD players.

Evaluate people as a group instead of individually. Classification of people is fairly difficult.
