Two (or more) female mice, if together from a young age, or introduced properly at an older age, should get along fine.

For males, it's another story. Some get along (if together from a very young age), others don't. I dare say most don't, although I haven't actually kept males myself (because of this potential problem). The closest I've come to finding an explanation for why some male mice DO get along, is that it depends on the particular mouse strain, which is a lab term, so breeder's mouse line, if you will. I, personally, wouldn't take the risk of having to separate them as they get older, so I'll only get female mice; unless I happened to know for a fact that the mouse breeder has multiple male groups living together in harmony...

A male and female mouse should get along very well but unless you intend to breed yours (which you should NOT do unless you know a lot about mice and how to care for them and already have homes lined up for ALL the pups) you are better off with two females.

If two young female mice are raised together they will get along. Males will fight. Two adults who don't live together will fight.
