I'm buying a house that has a home made pool dug in the ground. It is lined with cinderblock brick and painted blue. Would it be more affordable to fill in the hole (approximately 1200 cubic feet) or pay a contractor to fix it and permit it? I know alot about many trades, unfortunately im dumbed with this one. Is it a DIY possibility to fix it?

If the price of the home includes the pool, you would be throwing money away by filling it in. I doubt the Realtor is going to sell a house with a free hole in the back yard. You would have to get estimates from local excavators and pool contractors to get an immediate answer to your question. But if you don't in the cost of the house with/without a pool and your future resale value with/without a pool, it is still your choice.
By the way, how is an unpermitted pool getting past the building inspector?

Fill it in. It's not just the money to create a pool out of a hole it is an expense for the rest of your life.

i own a pool company and you can plant flowers around your pool, but put a thin layer of sand on bottom of hole then good top soil then your flowers i have never seen a pool edge cave in because of pressure like he said and i have been in pool business for eleven years

Call an excavator and have him bring in a couple of loads of dirt and fill it in. The costs of operating a pool are pretty high. Plus the increase in insurance costs. You have the chemicals, and the water, and the maintenance that never stops. good luck.

I think the question would be do you want a pool?

If so, then you have a great start - or at the very least a big hole.

In not, then fill it in - or convert it to a root cellar, or a bomb shelter, or some other creative use.

Good luck

Only you can answer which one is more affordable. But if you meant which is less expensive,The answer is simple. It is cheaper to fill it in. Salvage the cinderblock and brick and fill it in.

Well, do you want to clean and maintain a pool? Is it something you'd use enough to make it worth while. I'd fix it up and use it for a basement storage area under a gazebo.

Fill it in. It costs a fortune to keep a pool. Water, chemicals, etc. etc.

It would probably be cheaper to just make it into a decent pool.
