Forsythia is relatively easy to grow, and everyone is required to have at least one in their yard, at least in New England.
Daylilies are VERY easy to grow, bloom throughout July and August, very hard to kill, pretty. You can get all manner of colors from yellow, peach, red, orange, pink, purple... the only things I have not seen are blue ones. They grow in sunny areas.
Hostas are great for shady areas and will form huge clumps.
Astilbe is sometimes called "cast iron plant". It grows in shade to part sun and flowers. Available in colors from white, pink, peach, red. Lovely and perfect for a person looking for little care and very hard to kill.

Cone-flowers, simple to grow, love sunshine and drought resistant. They were wild flowers and now everyone has them. They come in 3 or 4 different colors, every year they get bigger and wider, are gorgeous. They will drop seeds and start new plants you can leave or dig up and plant more of them. Any nursery has them or you can go on line and buy them. They have a different name besides cone flowers but if you type cone flowers into your computer you will bring up a few sites that will show you pictures and even sell them.
They are a very hardy plant anyone can grow with little or no care. They get 3 to 4 ft high within a year or two and as wide as a bush.
Hosta's are great and easy to grow also, but they are shade plants, need to be planted in shade.

Ground growning ivy (English Ivy) is always nice, it seems to grow just fine no matter what you do to it or don't do to it.
Besides, it stays green in the winter. Doesn't grow huge like a big bush that needs trimming... and can grown up the side of your house (it's ok if your house is brick). ---Think Ivy-league schhol... (I have it growning up the south side of my home- it looks great, once per year I weed whack it about a foot below my gutter line. It stays well trained... the mason I hired to do some brick pointing said the english ivy doesn't break the masonary- rather it has lttle suction cup type stems.
It grew well on the ground too.

Need to know what part of the country you live in. Go to a local nursery and ask someone who knows. Then go to another one and ask to be sure you're not being sold what they have. Write down the names and then google them and read up on what the different plants need to survive like how much sun, how much water and on and on. . .There are lots of bushes that will survive mistreatment and still look good but it depends on what and where. . .

hmm...why do you kill everthing you plant? maybe if we figure that out, what you plant will become less crucial. do you forget to water? do you water too much? or, like so many people i've ever met, do you plant greens with at least an inch of the root ball sticking out of the soil? that's bad because the plants dry out quickly and severely when they are trying to get established, and they die. maybe this isn't what you do, but if it is, start planting the ball level with the soil.

ginger- bonus, it keeps the snakes away and makes lovely flowers that vary with each type of ginger.
bamboo- excellent for creating hiding spots
bougainvillea - just gorgeous....will grow on any trellis, and the thorns could make an excellent weapon against bad guys.

AGAIN, THE ROSE OF SHARON BUSH IS WONDERFUL ABOUT GROWING.IT IS REALLY EASY TO GROW, IT IS HARD TO KILL. IT HAS BIG, BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS ON IT. THEY COME IN DIFFERENT COLORS, IN FACT, SOMETIMES JUST THE PLACEMENT IN YOUR YARD WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COLOR OF THE BLOOMS ON THE ROSE OF SHARON BUSHES. IN MY YARD, THEY RANGE IN COLOR FROM LIGHT LAVENDER TO DARK LAVENDER, TO LIGHT PINK, TO DARK PINK, AND IN MY DAUGHTER'S YARD FROM THE SAME START OF THE SAME BUSH, THEY ARE ALMOST WHITE WITH A DARK PINK CENTER. SO, THEY JUST GROW WHEREVER YOU PLANT THEM AND THEY WILL MULTIPLY LIKE CRAZY UNTIL YOU CUT THEM BACK.
