This phrase was not originally part of the Pledge. It was put there in the mid-20th century because people thought for some reason that it would help fight communism.

Depending on which source you believe, between four to twenty per cent of US citizens do not beleive in God.

(I am not American but I am asking this question as the USA is a major influence upon my own country. I have also asked this question in Religion).

I don't care, if I have to say the pledge I just leave out those words. And, since reciting the pledge is kind of just something you repeat the words have little meaning. I do remember when the schools got permission to stop requiring the pledge every morning, lots of my kids' teachers were happy because they could use that time to read to their class as the pledge was mostly just a way to settle the kids down to start the day...

This country was founded by men who were looking for a land where they could worship God as they chose. It is clear that the "hand of God " has been on this country from its beginning. How does a rag, tag bunch of farmers and gentlemen defeat the best trained and supplied army in the world at that time ( the British Army). Some of the other military blunders committed by those who meant to conquer the world show the mighty hand of God at work on our behalf. Why didn't the Japanese send another wave of planes to finish off the Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor? Why did Hitler go after the Russians and start a two front war and splitting his own forces? There can be no other logical explanation but the protection of God. There can not be true Freedom apart from the Will and Law of God.

Why should it be removed? It doesn't say "under the God of the Jews" or "under the God of the Christians" or "under the God of the Muslims" or "under the God of the Druids". It says one nation under God. That can be whatever god you want it to be. The Country was founded by, like it or not, people that came here to be able to worship God without the interference of the government. They were mostly Quakers and Puritans. so on would have to admit that the country was founded by people who beleved in God (the God of the Jews and Christians). To deny that is intellectual dishonesty. Granted, the phrase "under God" wasn't added 'til the '50's, but what harm has it caused. Do you see the government coming into homes saying "you will worship this specific god"? Quite the opposite has happened. Most things having to do with Christianity have forcibly been removed from public sight on public ground. (The nativity scenes, the Ten Commandments which, like it or not is the basis for all laws here, Christmas trees, even Merry Christmas)

I'm a Christian and will continue to say "under God" during the pledge even if it were taken out, because that's the way I learned it in school. We said the pledge every morning at school, but if you don't want to say it, then don't. I'm a Christian,I believe in God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, but if you don't that's up to you. No one forces you here to believe anything. That's the great thing about this country. You are free to believe what you want or don't want.

This united states replace into based by potential of potential of adult adult males who've been searching for a land the region they might worship God as they chosen. it fairly is obvious that the "hand of God " has been in this united states from its beginning up. How does a rag, tag bunch of farmers and gents defeat the appropriate experienced and provided militia indoors the worldwide at that factor ( the British militia). lots of the various secure practices stress blunders dedicated by potential of potential of people who meant to overcome the worldwide teach the useful hand of God at artwork on our behalf. Why did no longer the eastern supply yet yet another wave of planes to end off the Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor? Why did Hitler go after the Russians and start up a 2 front conflict and splitting his very own forces? There would desire to be no different logical explanation even nevertheless the threat-unfastened practices of God. There won't be able to be actual Freedom apart from the desire and regulation of God.

It should stay! The founding fathers believed in god. That is a historical fact. It is the 4 to 24 percent of those people that should not push their stupid beliefs on others. That is whats wrong with this country now. We all have rights! Look at some forms of Islam, believe it or die. Real civilized! I push my beliefs on no one, if you do not believe me I am not going to force my opinion on you. That's what atheist do. They are a minority and should not push their beliefs on others. They do it all the time, that's whats wrong with this country! If you don't like a TV show, change the Chanel!!!!!

No, its not time to remove the phrase "under God" from the pledge of allegiance. The U.S. has taken God out of the classrooms, the courtroom and any other place the ACLU deems appropriate. That is why this country is in such a mess.

I don't believe in God and I don't really care. Personally, I don't think it makes any different as long as we say the Pledge of Allegiance proudly.

Although I personally have zero belief in "God", it really matters very little to me that those two words are included in the pledge when considering they do mean a lot to so many of my fellow Americans. The way i see it, there are MUCH bigger issues to be concerned with right now.

You can barely get people to say the pledge now.

But to get religious, is it idolatry to pledge allegiance to the flag?

For those who do not believe in GOD, think about this.

I'd rather be wrong, and place my faith and afterlife in the hands of JESUS, and be wrong, than not believe and reject him and be wrong.

In the book of JOHN it says;

There is only one unforgivable sin, and that is absolute rejection.

Why worry about the pledge, you can't say it in school, at the ball game, or any pubic sanctioned sports event. The bleeding heart liberals would like to take GOD out of everything, but they are a "MINORITY".

Put the issue on the ballott and see where it leads us.

I don't know where you are from, but GOD is watching...

By the way what is "religion".

If Muslims put their faith in Allah, do they believe in Satan? Wasn't Satan one of GODs Arcangles?
