I took a drug test and it was negative.....however I was accused of using small amounts of Marijuana because "the line was very faint" A friend of mine who was on her cycle also had this problem. Could menstral blood in the urine be the cause??? What things could cause a false positive?

Thanks for the info about a split sample test! I am on probation and people have told me I basically have no rights. So can I ask my probation officer for a split sample test? What does that do just poor half in one container to be tested and half in another??

I highly doubt that.

Menstual blood will not cause a false-positive. I've given quite a few urine drug screens to females on their period, and they come up negative, unless the female is on a substance that causes the positive. (I know they're on their period, because I go to the bathroom with them for the screen.)

We send all of our screens off to be analyzed by a lab. If I want an immediate answer about positive or negative status, before the client seals the cup, I dip the quick screen stick into the urine, then have the client seal the cup. We then put it in the bag with the paperwork, and I send it off. That way I make sure that the quick screen is not my only proof of a positive screen. The quick screen might not hold up in Court. The lab-analyzed sample will hold up in Court, especially since the lab will send someone to Court to testify if necessary.

We charge $30 for a screen, but don't charge twice if we do a quick screen and send the same sample off to the lab.

I doubt it. I would be more concerned with the OTC medications you are taking. NSAIDs like Ibuprofen can deliver false positives.

Your situation highlights the always looming problem with urinalysis. Employers don't want their people using drugs, but they are often unwilling or unable to pay for a GCMS to make sure the results are right. Because of the stigma illicit drugs carry, an individuals reputation can be destroyed for doing nothing more than treating a headache.

As long as their is a line it is negative. Request a split sample test. They should have kept 1/2 of the sample at the time of the test in dispute. This will be sent to a lab and be ran in a machine.
Know your rights.
