It sounds like you've had a really bad experience, and unfortunately that does happen. I do not know the laws in India, but in the US the laws are not to protect the woman over the husband, they are to protect the lower income earner, or the person who has main custody over the children. In most situations this happens to be the woman, but as women gain better incomes, men actually are benefiting more often than before. The laws were put into place because traditionally the homemaker hasn't worked since the marriage, and would not have the means to provide for her own support after her husband left her. Now, alimony is more likely to be rewarded if there is a large discrepancy between incomes. But it is not always going to be rewarded. If both partners have relatively equal assets and there are no children involved, there is often no alimony to worry about. It also depends on the reasons for the divorce, if one partner is cheating or abusive, they are going to be less likely to receive alimony.

Some men do, some men don't. Some women are really adamant about not wanting a man to do gentlemenly things, so some men just stop doing it to everyone...

I see what you mean, and it might have something to do with their attitudes towards them ever since the Womens Rights Movement. I guess they think "Hey, they want the benefits of being a man, they'll have to be as tough as a man too."

I think if a person is brave, they will protect someone. If they are not brave or are afraid of being hurt, they will hesitate.

Notice that I used NO indication on sex for either party.

We don't need men to protect us. We're women not children.

The bigger question: "Why should Women have to be , or need to be, protected ???"

Gay Men, at least the vast vast vast majority of Gay Men , do not commit violence on Women. So what is wrong with Straight Men ( You know, the ones who supposedly "Love" Women), that they inflict so much harm onto Women.

A couple of months ago in Melbourne Australia two very brave men went to help a woman who was being bashed by a thug... they were both shot, one died and the other ended up in the ICU for weeks ... the man who died had a wife and three small children, was it worth it?

cowardice (which involves fear, putting yourself first and making sure you're OK, not willing to take risks, lack of backbone, the person's welfare isn't as important to you as making yourself safe)
