I mean the guy is like 50 years old and still get on base close to 60 percent of the time. I know he's suspected of using roids in the past, but what he's doing now couldn't be from roids cause major league baseball would have busted him by now.

Im not sure. Even though he still used steriods, I have tons of respect for Barrys hitting. The steriods may put the ball in McCovey Cove, but they dont teach plate discipline, they dont help your swing, and they dont help your contact hitting. Hes a hall of famer before he used steriods, and was already one of the best ever before he started juicing. That guy can flat out hit, although its a shame he had to start taking steriods.

He really doesnt' need any credit, since he makes so much money, he can just pay for everything in cashola!

Seriously, his personality has transended the steroid issue and I think that is the biggest thing that hurts him. Its not that he is a jerk, but he is percieved that way because he has shielded himself from the rest of the world to protect him and his family.

IMHO, it takes talent to hit a ball that far and for so many years. If he used performance enhancers of some kind and has still been able to perform for this long, then more power to him. Its not like it was illegal... and that is baseball's fault, not his.

You know that McGwire was juiced up and Sammy too when they made their run at 61. Did anyone care? NO! it was great for baseball and right after a bitter strike that threatened to take away some fans forever and probably dropped baseball below the NFL for good in national popularity.

No matter what, there will be haters out there (including Selig it seems, which is such a load of crap... he is so useless).

Go Barry! get it done and then retire so we can get on with life!!!!!

People only believe that what the media portrays him as. He's only abrasive to the media, but people think they'd get the same treatment on the street by him.

I've met him at EA Sports where I work and on the street in my neighborhood. He's kind to everyone he meets, takes time to chat, will pose for pics, sign autographs and will shake your hand. He does not care what color you are and does not discriminate.

Just a genuine, kind person, but shocking that all these people here judge him and think he's a bad person without even knowing him.

:,Well I think that Bond don't get the respect because he is not a Media Person per say. He is lay ed back not always in the media face. I think that people for get that the use of steroids could have been going on for a long time, if the man is not using them now than leave him a lone let have his day under the sun, he will get the record.

I give him so little credit first because of the roids. I also give him so little credit because i think hes just in baseball for the fame not the love of the game and if you ever seen him hit to third or ss he'll never run through the base he goes half way and goes back to the dug out.

Because Barry Bonds is a cheater! They have proven that he took steroids, just "not knownly". Seriously, what kind of player hits 73 homeruns when their 37!!!!!! He's a great hitter without steroids, but he wouldn't be able to beat the record without them. He gets WAY to much attention for trying to break the records that it makes me want to puke! He's a cheater, plain and simple.

RACISM

McGuire and Sosa in the great American Homerun Derby of 1998 were never scrutinized like Bonds has been- even though it was OBVIOUS they had STEROIDS in their beefed up bodies...before Barry ever touched the 'roids he was one of the greatest players in the Game...it's all academic because A-ROD, a great friend of Barry, will probably hit 800...bottom line...BARRY BONDS with SEVEN MVP AWARDS WILL GO TO THE HALL OF FAME or Cooperstown should be leveled!

Its not entirely the steroid thing. Bonds acts like he is above the game which makes most people not like him. He's arrogant and comes off as a jerk most the time, so people don't like him. If he'd treated the fans a little better over the course of his career he'd be getting a lot better reception as he approaches the record...

I love the guy who played the race card and mentioned how McGwire and SOSA were'nt bashed...first of all, Sosa isn't white...second of all McGwire and Sosa weren't ***** to the media their entire career.

Bonds is easily one of the top ten greatest players of all time, but he has become the face of a scandal. He will be standing next to Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe in the on-deck circle waiting to get into the hall. The difference with Bonds is, once this generation in the media dies out, Barry will get in.
