From the looks of the photo the stain is near a sliding door? My guess is wind driven rain is blowing under that door and the drywall is absorbing it.

I bet if you pull up the carpet there you will be able to see where the rain is coming under that door.

This appears to be at the bottom of a wall, carpeted floor, inside a room. If that's so, then there's obviously a leak coming from somewhere above the wall and running down the stud(s), inside, exiting at the bottom. You'll need to locate the leak, or water source above the wall and stop it before you can expect to repair this mess.

Looks like a water leak. Stop the water outside.

Sure looks like water damage. I can't really see much from this photo. Is there a flat roof above this area or is it inside? There could be a roof leak or an a/c condensate line. I'd need more info.
