Tempered glass can break from a tiny rock chip from a long time prior. The chip sets up a stress point and when the glass expands due to heat, the stress is exaggerated until the glass pops. Sometimes, the installer can chip the edge of the glass and that will show up as a surprise, day or night.

Yes. Now im a firetruck tech, not a glass expert but I believe that small air bubbles trapped inside the glass can expand with the heat and cause the glass to break. Since it is safety glass it is already designed to shatter into a million tiny peices. Im not exactly sure how they design it but it sure keeps you from getting sliced in an accident.

But if it was hit with something, a bunch of little pieces of class will fall all over the place.
