In the US, it can mean three different things. In terms of fashion and beauty, a color consultant will drape a client with various colors to determine whether one is a Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter. Winter and Summer (colors/persons) bring out the pink tones in one's skin to compensate for their natural orange tones. Spring and Autumn (colors/persons) bring out the orange tones to compensate for their natural pink tones.
Spring colors are pale and light shades (pastels) and a lighter version of Autumn colors. Summer colors are a lighter version of Winter colors.
The second interpretation of a person by season refers to the "seasons of life." Spring is birth-25; Summer 25-50; Autumn is 50-75; and Winter is 75+.
Third, when you hear of a December-May relationship, they are referring to couple with a wide age difference: the younger one is May and the older one is December.
Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Colors may not be all that critical for men. Most guys know they look great in navy or gray suits, white or blue shirts, and an appropriate power tie.
Women divide humanity into four groups (by seasons) by looking at their skin, hair and eye color. Then best and worst colors are assigned by these criteria.
Example:
If this describes you, then your season is Spring.
Skin: Ivory, pink, beige, peach
Hair: Gold blond, light red, gold brown, gold gray
Eyes: Blue, green, teal, aqua, golden brown
Your best colors are:
Red, light Blue, bright Green, Peach, Pink, Yellow, Ivory,
Orange, Violet, White, Camel, Tan, Gold-Brown, light Browns, Beige
Colors to avoid are:
Dark Brown, Blue-Red, Black, Blue

I think it relates to color in fashion, according to a person's skin tone, hair and eye color. For example, a "spring" should wear bright colors and pastels. Springs generally have fair skin, blue eyes and blond hair. "Winters" have dark hair and eyes, and olive skin. They look best in jewel tones such as sapphire blue, ruby red, magenta, violet and plum. "Autumns" have red or auburn hair, brown eyes and medium complexions and should wear shades of orange, tan, brown, rust and beige. "Summers" can have dark blond or light brown hair, hazel or green eyes, and bright shades complement them the best. Of course, this is not written in stone, and is too cut and dry for most people. I think a person should wear colors that flatter them the most, regardless of what "season" category they fit under. This was just a general guideline created by some fashion maven some years ago, and is no longer considered essential.

I think you are referring to a colour matching system used in fashion and I think it goes something like this:
Summer: People who are described as summer usually have medium brown hair and look good in medium shades.
Winter: People of more extreme colouring (either black or very white hair) and look good in stronger shades.
Spring: Usually with sandy hair and can wear shades like turquoise, lemon, sandy brown, and pastels etc
Autumn: Usually with red or ginger hair who look good in Autumn colours like red, green, brown etc
I suspect this is very 80s trend as you don't tend to hear much about it now.

Are you in the Autumn or Fall at the end of your life? Or, are you a Spring Chicken, just beginning.

The way your skintone, hair color, and eye color makes it so you wear either autumn, winter, spring or summer colors.
