Enjoy your marriage and leave the excess baggage out. Communicate. Never go to bed angry with one another.
Never make fun or make rude remarks in regards to each other, to anyone. Always consider the other person's feelings when you are put in a position to make decisions without the other.

Husbands tend to be "fixers", so if you have a problem at work with someone, that problem is out of range for him to fix, and he will probably not seem too attentive, at least that's been my experience. Learn to read your mates expressions and body language to see if he's open to what you want to discuss, if not, wait for a better time, or discuss it with a close friend whose advice you trust completely.
ps- it's not a good idea to start a conversation when he's watching sports on tv.

never go to bed on an arguement
learn to laugh with each other
always share your problems never hide them
never lie, that is no way to earn trust
say I love you every day
don't take each other for granted
