i know it's an odd question and all but i'm really curious about the reason

Apparently, it was a stylistic/aesthetic choice, at least for the Greeks. Larger genitalia was seen as worse, to put it simply. Get the details from the link.

Well, for one thing, the classical sculptures are usually shown in a 'relaxed' state, when they're smaller anyway, as I'm quite sure you know!

Another thing - they really were usually considered more aesthetically pleasing the smaller they were. There was a really interesting book written about this once, called Greek Homosexuality sometime in the 1970s or 1980s by Dover, whose first name escapes me. I read it when I was doing my undergrad degree. If this sort of stuff interests you, you should definitely check it out.
