why would the cat come back and who says he is hungry
if he did come back, he would not stay long
once they have left there home's, cat's rarely return
most often they perish
as for the butterfly, he is smart but slow, as the season is coming to a close.Would it be so bad if the cat had had a snack?

Not MY feline companion. She wouldn't eat it if it was the only thing I gave her for supper, (of course it would have to be in a state of atrophy). No moths, no nothin' but her prescription diet. AND. Cats are NOT trained hunters & killers. Only feral cats (due to callous & uncaring HUMANS not having their cats "fixed," & letting them wander outdoors, who can only find food by hunting it). Or was there a metaphor I missed?

No. Cats don't eat butterflies. They follow them with their eyes, swat a paw at them playfully and move on...
