But every town has underground pipes. And most, say the American Society of Civil Engineers, have pipes that are fifty years old or more. In this profound sense—it threatens everyone, everywhere—this rot is more worrisome than a terrorist attack.

This is truly an enemy within. Every day, conservative politicians fight for the right not to take care of infrastructure, just like Ronald Reagan: "Government is not the solution. Government is the problem."

It is high time we look at our country. Perhaps if the GOP realizes that if we fix our infrastructure, there will be lots of Government Contracts!

That way they can get more no-bid contracts and do shoddy work.

We need to put quality clauses in our contracts as well as fiscal penalties that are substantial for not completing their duties under the terms of the contracts.

If they think they can make a profit for no work they will trip over each other to fix our infrastructure.

Nice try Bruce, but one has nothing to do with the other. Go back and study economics 101 a bit more. To insinuate that if we gave up our tax cuts they would be used to fix the infrastructure by our big daddy government is ludicrous. Oh the mind of the liberal never ceases to amaze me. It's always the mean evil concervative that wants our country to rot away lol. Thanks for the laugh.....

Tax reciepts are at an all time high which is a byproduct of tax cut- take an economics course. Also the wealthiest Americans actually pay a larger share of the total tax bill than they did before the cuts.
I am lower middle class but have 6 yrs of college. I like to deal in things called facts rather than sitting around playing class warfare and taking blindly ideological potshots. This divisiveness is for the birds

Reagan was referring mostly to federal gov't sticking it's nose in business where it has no business being. Basic city infrastructure should be handled at the city level.

So what happens when your city officials have good times and have some extra cash on hand? Do they tend to all the maintenance that's been deferred? Do they bank it for future maintenance? Or do they blow it all on their new pet programs.

Yes, I'm enjoying it very much since the place I live doesn't pay poor people to be poor therefore they have plenty of off money to spend on infrastructure.
