the answer is 4 over x+2

solution: 4x+8 over x^2 +4x +4
4( x+2) over (x+2)(x+2)
cancel the x+2 at the top and at the bottom
= 4 over x+2

4x+8 is the same as if you factor 4 from each term to get 4(x+2)...

now for x^2 + 4x+ 4.... you use reverse FOIL. So... you need to find two number that will multiply to 4... and at the same time that will add up to 4... The number is 2....

so.... x^2 + 4x + 4 = (x+2)(x+2)....

So....

....4x+8
-----------------
(x^2 + 4x + 4)

.. 4(x+2) <---,
= ----------- .....`- (x+2)'s in the numerator and denominator cancel...
..(x+2)(x+2) <-----'

leaving you with....

.. 4
------- as your answer...
(x+2)

Hope this helps!!!
