I work for a non-profit school, and there are only 5 people who are authorized to sign employee's paycheck. Two signitures are required on the paychecks. Today I received my paycheck, and one one is authorized, and the other is just another employee. My question is two-fold. Is this fraud, and what penalities am I looking at if I cash this check? And if this is an illegal check, how do I report it and not get fired?

Never cash a check you are uncertain about!

I would ask the branch manager at the issuing bank to check the signers before cashing it. The bank manager would probably be happy to verify with the company to avoid being at a loss.

Ask the issuing authority if this was a "mistake." If they say no, then cash it.

You may have trouble at a bank with the wrong signatures.
Return it for a new check.
