Virtually anything of interest can become an online business. Take "myspace" for example. It doesn't necessarily have to be selling goods and services.
The thing is, these days people like an interactive interface (like Y/A!) that let's them do some degree of management and manipulation along with interaction. If you can dream up something like that, which generates a lot of online traffic....you've just started a business.
Google adds also might help you in the beginning once you get it off the ground.
