You live in an apartment and you only have one parking spot. You get along with your neighbors when you first move in. Then one of them next door moves out and suddendly you find that the new neighbor has lots of friends. Now someone is often parked in your spot. You go to talk to them about it and they say,"oh yeah, I was going to apologize." Then someone else parks there and you ask the driver why he didn't notice the number that is painted on your spot. He gives you the dumbest response. Now you're afraid to even move your car just to make sure you don't lose your spot AGAIN when you get back. Do you buy a sawhorse and put a No Parking sign on it? Do you get revenge? Do you just keep complaining about it repeatedly? How do you keep from screaming at them? Right now, all I can think of to do is to park behind them or just sit there honking until someone comes out. This is not what I wanted. It's been going on since the day they moved in. What now?

Yes I have had this done to me. If you talk to the office about it and they don't do anything.......I think your lease should state you have a parking space. Call the Apartment Association and see what you can do. Is it posted no parking? If it is you can call the police and they will call a tow truck. You have proof you live there, show them that proof.. But don't let it stress you out, keep calm and use your head. You will get more with honey than you will with vinagar. Good Luck.

Third_Hunter: Has good advice

Do not take revenge - it will get you in trouble with the building manage and possibly the police (If you park behind their vehicle and honk your horn on continuously, someone is going to call the police - you will likely be charged under some noise bylaw or for disturbing the peace) If you have to go to court to have the person compensate you for using your parking space - the charge will be used against you.

Do speak to (Which you have done) and write a letter to the offending party - be polite. Include the parking space number, time(s), and date(s) when they have occupied your parking space. CC a copy to building management and a lawyer if you have one. Keep a copy for yiur records.

Do speak directly to the management politely and remind them that under your lease contract that parking space is your and you are paying for it's use.

Check the local bylaws governing private parking; some municipalties allow illegal vehicals to be towed at the owners expense.

Do call the police and/or parking authority whenever a vehicle is parked in your space that you did not authorize.

Keep a log of all the violations and include:
date and time
police constable's badge number
police report's number
licence number of the vehicle
make, model, and colour of the vehicle
the VIN, if you can see and read it without touching the vehicle - usually located on the driver's side dash visble through the lower part of the windshield.

Do not touch the vehicle

If it still persists you will have to take them to court (likely small claims court) If you do take them to court, bring all the documentation you collcted from above and a copy of your lease.

Do not give into them, be kind but firm. It would be a good idea to have another adult accompany you when you speak to the offending party.

Good Luck

Brake fluid in a squirtgun. Squirt the car. They don't notice it for days. It does a real number on paint. Sooner or later they are afraid to park anywhere. A civil approach won't work. You have to find a way that makes it a hassle for them to park there. I like the sawhorse idea, but you'll get sick of moving it yourself. If you don't want to create damage, use vegtable oil in your squirtgun. Get the windows. They will get sick of cleaning it at the next "PEESTER" station all the time to drive. Just like training a dog. They park there squirt, they don't park there leave it alone.

Is it a numbered spot? If so have them towed but first write out flyer and make copies and give it to all of the folks around you expressing your feelings. After a week goes by and if they are still parking in your spot, then call a tow truck. also state that on your flyer that a truck will be called to tow vehicles that are parked in your numbered spot.

You obviously are a perfect candidate for Dave's Proven 3-Step Programme...
Step 1 "Service With a Smile" - where you confidently approach the new neighbor with nothing but a smile and inform. choosing a neighborly acceptable time of day.
Step 2 "For Those Who Didn't Listen" - this is where you basically repeat Step 1, only be sure to poorly chose a good time of day, while also mentioning the word "car" one time, clearly. (Be sure you have practiced and perfected your best "I AM POSSESSED BY THE DEVIL" face in the mirror, and give them a few seconds of horror as you turn your head around 360 just before you walk away.)
Step 3 - "The Works" - proceed to terrorize them at your whim, carelessly utilizing whatever cruelties spring to mind & whatever weaknesses have been lurking in your sub-being, without hesitation. Wait 10 days to two weeks and welcome the NEW neighbours. In the meantime, you will have also found a vehicle for relieving all of your own personal inner frustrations, found a renewed sense of balance, and hearing yourself joyfully retelling great stories to friends.
The cost of Peace - "Priceless."

I would talk to the land lord or office, IF you can't talk to them...I been there it is REALLY annoying!!!
I wouldn't go for the revenge, but parking behind them wouldn't be a bad Idea. If you can talk to your neighbor I would do that 1st...wright a note stick it on the car tell them to knock when they are ready to get out of your spot...never say oh that is OK when talking to them either, and if you did say it is not NOW..

Talk to your neighbor, the head of the family about how you feel in such a polite way and then put a sign like "private parking" in your parking spot.

Advise the neighbor whose friends take your parking space that you will be calling a tow truck. Next time they take your space, do it. The apartments you live in should have provided guest parking and your neighbor's guest should be told to park there.

check with your apartment management and see if they tow illegally parked cars and if they do and the manage, ant does not want to do anything about it i would somehow get or find the phone number and have the car towed...yes it is pretty drastic but if you are getting nowhere with all your other options it is time to stand up for yourself...yes they will probably be upset but better them than you in this situation

Unfortunately about all you can do is complain to the management and if that fails see an attorney.

Good luck, this is probably something that is unfixable. If the neighbors are jerks and the management are eunuchs all you can do is move.
