Depends on how many days, the event occured.
If on the spot, ask the immediate manager/senior to handle the debit/credits & balance.
If not on the spot, ask the customer for their receipt to trace the timing & Transaction ID or etc.
Still can trace back via the overall billing transactions. If there's extra $100 thn bingo.(usually daily close or sometimes 2-3X summarize the billing transaction).

Since you're asking this question under the "Malaysia" section, it could never happen.

In Malaysia, the biggest note currency is $100. Therefore, how can u short-change a person $100 when the biggest note a person can give is $100?

Seek manager immediately - the contents of the till will match up with what has been rung into it if there hasn't been a mistake.
