Great question, and here we go again! In the '40's on the radio the Bell Telephone Hour and Amos n'Andy were among my favorites; in the '50's on radio probably Dimension X, and in the '60's on television the Ed Sullivan Show, Red Skelton, and the Honeymooners with Jackie Gleason. They don't make em like that any more which is why I don't waste my time on much TV. Besides, I'd rather be on Yahoo Q and A.

40's-early 50's: The Bickersons (favorite), Amos and Andy, Inner Sanctum, The Shadow, Mr. Chameleon, The Railroad Hour (always did an operetta, had Gordon Mcrae as the star) Dagwood and Blondie, and Your Hit Parade.
50's: American Bandstand and Mickey Mouse Club (I, like about 101%of the rest of the guys, was in love with Annette)
60's...was in college, didn't watch much TV..but the Beverly Hillbillies was always fun (how's that for Highbrow tastes?

I liked The Show of Shows with Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca and The Ed Sullivan Show.

We weren't allowed to watch much T.V. After chores we'd either be outside playing or somewhere reading a book.

I didn't discover radio serials until they were rebroadcast in the '70's. What a treat!

When I was a kid my brother and I Saturday mornings was consumed by sitting crossed legged in front of the TV watching shows like: Sky King, Hopalong Cassidy reruns, and Wild Bill Hickok. All this while wearing a Paladin six shooter. Then when Mom would would be passing through the room she would tell us to scoot back away from the TV because it would hurt our eyes.
