Get a rain gauge (you can pick up a really cheap one) and put it in the area you want to measure the water in. Turn on the sprinkler and periodically check the rain gauge and see when it measures one inch. Check the total time the water has been on, and that's how long you'll need to run it to get 1 inch of water in the future. Just keep in mind that the time of day that you're watering can affect it. If it's really hot, it will take a little longer.

Put a container such as an empty tuna can in your yard, turn on the water, watch and time as it fills to the one inch mark.
