It represents the state & approx year in which the person obtained the social security was issued. (ie; 263 is Florida 1974+/-, 122 is New York) See the website below for additional information, hope it helps.

I'll take a guess. LOL

Area numbers - The first three numbers originally represented the state in which a person first applied for a Social Security card. Numbers started in the northeast and moved westward. This meant that people on the east coast had the lowest numbers and those on the west coast had the highest. Since 1972, the SSA has assigned numbers and issued cards based on the ZIP code in the mailing address provided on the original application form. Since the applicant's mailing address doesn't have to be the same as his residence, his area number doesn't necessarily represent the state in which he resides. For many of us who received our SSNs as infants, the area number indicates the state we were born in. You can find out which area numbers go with each state at SSA.gov: Social Security Number Allocations.

yea check this out i looked it up on line... here it is........

A Social Security number, or SSN, is a nine digit number that is unique to you. The first three numbers give your area of location at birth. The second two are the group numbers, which identify your location more specifically within your area. The last four numbers are serial numbers that have no specific meaning. They are assigned in order from 0001 to 9999, and when those are used up, the first five numbers change. The Social Security Administration has a very specific method for assigning numbers, which you can read more about on the SSA's website for teens (see the Links table).

It's just a number. A unique number assigned to an individual and no one else. Essentially the numbers are sequential, but once upon a time you could Identity the state in which the number was issued from the first 2 digits.
