i think its gay. the red sox are also like "ooh we have players from all different countries". like now they're marketing it like "look we have ortiz he's international he was born in a different country." well probably about 75% of players are from different countries, so I think they should just shutup.

Boston is a large international city and the Red Sox are going after every fan they can, and the best way to do that is in the language the fan speaks. Red Sox merchandise is a big business for them in the international market.

Of course, the Red Sox gain a lot Japanese fans with the signing of Dice-k. Infact, travel agencies reported that a lot of vacation trips to Boston from Japan jumped a whole lot after the signing of Dice-K. And Dice-K games are now televised in Japan. Nothing wrong with that. Fans are important!

Jake, you sound like an immature person. The primary reason for anybody to manage a business is to make profits. And if they think they can make more revenue by marketing to Japanese fans...let it be. Stop putting additional details that sounds senseless. You are making yourself look stupid.

It's called marketing, and is the reason that the Red Sox can, even in a relatively small market, keep a higher payroll and be competitive. But I would imagine anyone who thinks that calling something gay is a clever insult probably wouldn't understand that.

They have a lot more Japanese fans now just because of Dice-K. So why not appeal to those fans too? If they are going to be fans of your team you are going to do stuff for them. I dont think its that big of a deal for them to have ads in japanese or spanish or english.

Im guessing that teams like the Mariners and Yankees did it too when Ichiro and Matsui came over. As a matter of fact I know the Yankees did cause I went to a game during Matsui's rookie year and there were things all around the park in japanese.

Yeah....it's because a lot of Japanese people have become interested in Boston because they have Matsuzaka, who was a star back in Japan.
