I'm auditioning for a musical this weekend. I'm trying to figure out what songs to sing. Do the songs that I sing have to be from other musicals?

What were you told to do when they give you the audition? You should have asked, if they didn't tell you.
ALWAYS ASK, if they don't tell you.

It is usually better to audition with a piece that is not from that specific musical. However, it is good to pick a song that is in a similar genre or feel. Be careful not to audition with over played songs though.
Ex: Wicked, Annie, Beauty and The Beast, and Part of Your World from The Little Mermaid is a definite no no for auditions.

It's true that you might want to ask. And I agree with staying away from overused songs. My own bit of advice: Sing a song that compliments your voice. I think this is a given, but sometimes people put too much emphasis on the song itself instead of on showing off their voices - that's pretty much what the song should do. i.e. Choose a song with a varied range to it if that is what you can do.

It would help if they were from other musicals, but if you have songs that you can sing that reflect your range then it should be ok. Break a leg!!
