in an online converter, it says 2.5, but by my measurements its more, so what is it

Well, there are 16 oz. in one pound, so you do 48/16. Your answer is 3 pounds, so the online converter was wrong. Maybe you typed the wrong number or something.

Multiply by a conversion ratio. The ratio will technically equal to 1, so multiplying by it doesn't change the original value. But you can change the units this way.

48 oz * (1 lb/16 oz)
Since 1 lb = 16 oz, their ratio in the parentheses is equal to one.
