Best is to cook it outdoors where the smell dissipates faster. But be sure not to cook it near neighbors - as some people really cannot stand the smell.

You can lessen the smell of tuyo in the kitchen while cooking.
You don't need to cut anything or burn anything.
If cooking outside is not possible, you must fried the fish with a glass (see through) lid as cover.
When you are about to turn the fish, hold the handle of the frying pan near the open window.
Open the glass lid.
Then let the smoke get out of the window.
Then cover again.
Do this everytime you open the lid. 2 or 3x?
Then transfer the cooked tuyo in a microwaveable plastic
container with cover.
(This method is so simple yet it really works)

Light up a scented candle. Wolfgang Puck's kitchen scents candles have so far been the best. it won't take out all of the smell though.
Why don't you just buy bottled tuyo in olive oil?

light a candle while cooking. just like the match, the carbon from the candle flame will absorb the odor.
what i also do is light up a piece of paper and then blow out the flame and let the smoke fill up the room. again, the carbon from the smoke will absorb the odor.

Cook it outside of your house, I mean in an open area.

Thanks Inday I know the match works in the toilet but I didn't think of it for the tuyo.
Now when my wife wants the smelly fish for breakfast I will be lighting many matches.
I also think this should only be cooked outside (where it belongs)
