Don't ever try to use coal in a fire place! Charcoal shouldn't be used either. These give off chemical fumes which can make you either very ill or kill you! Use wood. Make sure your chimney is clean by using one of those special logs, or by getting a chimney sweep to do the work. This way you can avoid fires in the chimney that can spread throughout your house. Bury a peat bog under about a thousand feet of sediment and wait about 10,000 years.
