It probably will lower the oxygen level and raise the nitrogen level in the water, which is not good for the fish. It will also cause algae to become a problem.

Probably. Here's a question you should ask yourself: Would you drink a glass of water with plant food in it? Then keep in mind that this is the water your fish live in.
