I was terribly afraid. My mother had had complications because she smoked and was 39 years old. I was 20 when that happened and just didn't think I could do it myself. Then, when it was time for me to have my first child I decided to try it without drugs. Even with my apprehension and a 17 hour labor I did it. I also did it with my other two children.
Many years later I had an epidural for surgery. I will never do that again unless there is no alternative. It was much easier getting back to myself after natural childbirth than it was after having the epidural.
If you have had preparation classes and have a support system, you will make it. Yes, there is discomfort. I even had only back labor with all three children--supposedly much worse. But the reward is so wonderful. Keep thinking about the miracle.

labor really isn't all that bad. it hurts more than anybody can know especially before you get the epidural. if your not getting an epidural i reccommend it. strongly. 100%. but they can give you something thats called stadol if i spelled that right for the pain. you can only have it every two hours, but it's worth. it does not hurt the baby. don't be scared. cause once the labor process is over, and after all the pain, and after all the cussing every man out is over it's all worth it in the end because your holding a part of you and that's the only thing that you'll be able to think about. all that other stuff, you won't even remember.

Labor is bad, but it doesn't last that long. These days they never let you go more than 24 hours after the water is broken.
The epidural is a wonderful invention--go from severe pain to no pain at all in 10 seconds flat (after they put the catheter in).
Lots of women have their babies fast--like 5 hours. Piece of cake.
Me, I prefer a c-section. Baby is out in 20 minutes, I was awake because I had an epidural, and when everybody else sat on one cheek, I could sit down comfortably.
So don't be scared. They can do a lot for your comfort, and the pain is NOTHING compared to the joy of holding your child in your arms.

I was the same way. I was scared to death. Just get some drugs in your system, and you will be fine, it won't completley take the pain away, but it will make it better.
When I was pregnant I worked in an assisted living facility, I had several older ladies, tell me it was like taking a big poop. I kept thinking that the whole time going into labor, it took my mind off it a little. But after it was all said and done, that's what it felt like.
Good luck!

Labour for every women(and every time) is different. Some labours are long and hard and some are short and easy. The bottom line is you are going to go through it, it'll be intense and then you will get this amazing little baby to love and care for. Don't pysch yourself out by assuming it's going to be an awful experience because most women will tell you that it is one of the most wonderful things you can go through( even though it does hurt). Labour is just the start of a new life and like all lives some things will be bad and some will be good. Good Luck !

You ALWAYS have the option of pain meds. It's not as bad as some people say, but if you're stressed out about it, it can delay labor. Calm down! Take a childbirth class and they'll give you some tips on how to handle labor!
Good luck and Congrats!!

It can vary. The woman in the next room had no pain at all.
I had enough pain that I wanted to kill myself and this was after the epidural. The idiot assistant turned up the pitocin to the max believing I wasn't in real labor yet. Make sure you have someone in the room with you at all times because hospital employees are hard to come by and sometimes not very competent.

It's hard don't get me wrong but I've had two kids with no medication except one little shot and survived. It's hard to believe but once you see that baby all the pain goes away. You do go through some gross stuff afterwards. That only lasts a couple weeks. Also you can get on birth control before the six months is over; they tell you to wait six months after you have a baby to have sex. Not too many people do though.

I was scared until I went to childbirth classes. I know it's not going to be fun but I am prepared. I'd recommend taking some classes if you haven't already, and if you have time before your due date. Remember you're body is made to do this and women have been doing it since the beginning of time. You'll be fine. Just get a good support system to be with you and prepare yourself. Good luck!!
