Wow this is weird, i just got a baby box turtle and i had to look up what they eat and they absolutly LOVE earth worms, i feed mine night crawlers that i buy at a gas station near buy, if yours dont have them then you can find them at a local bait and tackle store or just out side under a log but be careful there could be spiders or snakes and they also eat dead crickets and you should be able to get turtle food at a pet store or maybe a wal mart near you, and what ever you put them in maksesure they have something to crawl under, i folded up a towl and put it in there with him and it goes up under it to sleep.
Oh and they also need water to soak in and drink so if you ahve a fish tank put rocks or and on one side and on the other put water about a inch deep, depends on how big it is but they can swim so dont worry about them drowning
soo good luck with your turtle, what did you name it? i named mine turbo

Yes, box turtles only eat bugs. They are not vegetarians like Tortoises. They love snails, slugs, and pill bugs. Make sure you don't have poison out for the bugs before you feed them to the turtles. Otherwise you will kill your turtles. You can watch them pull the snails right out of their shells. They are wonderful pets! They learn to recognize their owners and will come to you. They burrow in the dirt in the winter time around October, when all turtles go into hibernation. Make sure they are safe from flooding, as many a turtle has drown in holes they have dug in the earth to hibernate. Better yet, put them in a cardboard box in a safe area in the garage. Make sure you don't let dogs around the turtles. Dogs will chew on the shells, and worse yet, eat the turtles live. Good luck.

Box turtles in the wild eat about 75% 'bugs' (actually worms, insects, slugs, snails, arthropods, etc.) and 25% plants including mushrooms, berries, leaves, stems, flowers, etc.
Avoid hard shelled bugs like mealworms, etc. Crickets and worms are good, but use a good multivitamin and calcium supplement as well.

You can try to give your pet turtle a cricket or a grasshopper. Chances are your box turtle will enjoy such treat!
