Love(pertaining to fall in love with a mate and get married) comes from the fear of dying alone. (as quoted from Yellow Thunder Woman) Do you agree?

Also in the sense that people have dreams that when they grow up, they'll be married, have kids, have lots of money, a big house etc... But if they don't have a spouse, they won't be happy. Take it as in that they never actually think about what they want (because in today's society, marrying a person is the only socially acceptable thing to do) and that they are actually afraid of dying with no one to love, or even worse no one even loving them. So if they look past their wants, they could possibly see that they don't actually need someone to be happy. They can live their lives the way they want to, and with no one else and die the same way. It's just they don't want to because they are afraid.

So if what you say is right, then the people who don't want to have children sub/unconciously don't want to be immortal? Also in that sense, they sub/unconciously or even conciously come to terms that they don't want to live forever, or perhaps they don't like themselves enough to create another person to *try* to raise and even force their child to be just like them?

So who's wrong? the one's who can come to terms, or those who can't?

No. It's deeper than that. Is it because everybody needs their other half? I don't know. I don't know if I'll ever find one, and yeah, I do care.

And, hate to tell you this, but EVERYBODY dies alone, whether you're a king surrounded by physicians or a cot holder at home in bed surrounded by loved ones.

Maybe people love because we want to GIVE ourselves, to TAKE what the one you love wants to give, to share yourself, for companionship. If that's the case, then why not just get a dog??? I dunno. I do not presume to know the mysteries of love. Sorry if this answer is very little help.

I stick to my belief that we love because God gave us that ability, among all the other joys He has granted us. Perhaps as a promise of what is to come? I don't know. I don't think I'll ever know. But it gives me hope. Up with hope, down with Dope, man. Is it better to follow a lying scholar or an honest fool? If false hope better than no hope at all? You can find your own answers, but mine to both is YES. Emphatically.

Em, not quite. It comes from the fear of dying. We unconsciously believe that we can become immortal through having children. This is why we are attracted to someone--because we unconsciously believe they will be the best person with whom to reproduce the species.

Read Arthur Schopenhauer's essay, "The Metaphysics of the Love of the Sexes." It is part of his book *The World as Will and Idea*.

That's a horrible reason to get married.

Personally, I wanna get married to share my life (& jokes) with someone who will appreciate me. I don't expect the fantacy ... but the intamacy that comes with getting to know the good and bad in that person ... in turn showing what I have that's good & bad. This is intamacy. Marriage makes the bond that carries couples throught life's expected and unexpected changes.

I guess I look at marriage as living ... while what you describe is marriage as dying.

No, not at all, otherwise teenagers (who seem to think they're immortal) wouldn't have so many relationship problems.

It's hormonal. We're not interested in hooking up romantically with someone until we hit puberty and suddenly that icky boy starts looking really good.

Somehow it's true...but remember love doesn't include only the love for the opposite sex, but also for your family, pet, friends
