Let t = hours for passenger train to travel 325 miles

Speed of pass.train - speed of freight train = 25 mph
(325/t) - (200/t) = 25
325 - 200 = 25t
t = 125/25 = 5 hours

Train speeds are 325/t = 325/5 = 65 mph
and 200/t = 200/5 = 40 mph

Its simple really set up two ratios then cross multiply and solve for x.

F= 200/x
P= 325/x+25

these two ratios are equal because they can travel the same distance at the given rates. Cross multiplying gives you
200(x+25)=325x
200x+5000=325x
5000=125x
x=40
so the speed of the freight train is 40 and adding 25 will give you the speed of the passenger train 65.

Let x = speed of the freight train
x+25 is the speed of the passenger train.
The freight train will travel 200 miles in 200/x hours.
The passenger train will travel 325 miles in 325/(x+25) hours.
But they take the same time so
200/x=325/(x+25)
325x=200x+5000
x=40
The freight train travels at 40 mph and goes 200 miles in 5 hours.
The passenger train travels at 65 mph and goes 325 miles in 5 hours.

x = speed of freight train
x + 25 = speed of passenger train
time = distance/rate
200/x = 325/(x+25)
Cross multiply:
325x = 200 (x+25)
325x = 200x + 5000
125x = 5000
x = 40 mph = speed of freight train
x+25 = 65 mph = speed of passenger train

v = x/t where v is the speed, x is the distance, and t is the time traveled

To solve for the time, use that the speed of the passenger train is 25 mi/h faster than the speed of the freight train:

325m/t = 200m/t + 25m/h

125m/t = 25m/h

5 hr = t

Speed of passenger train:
v = x/t =325m/5h = 65 m/h

freight train: 65m/h - 25m/h = 40 m/h
