WASHINGTON - Congress sent President Bush legislation Friday to intensify anti-terror efforts in the U.S., shifting money to high-risk states and cities and expanding screening of air and sea cargo to stave off future Sept. 11-style attacks.
The bill, passed by the House on a 371-40 vote, ranks among the top accomplishments of the six-month-old Democratic Congress. The Senate approved the measure late Thursday by 85-8

As far as the Dems, they have only held power for about 6 months, and that by ony the slimmest of majorities. Certainly not enough to over-ride a presidential veto.
The investigations continue, however, and the neo-cons will be brought to justice.
Bush has flushed billions down the toilet and sacrificed our brave soldiers for Exxon, Mobil and Shell, and corporations like Halliburton.
Check the IRS reported income of the Cheney's before the war...about $150,000. Last year the Cheney's reported an income of 8 1/2 million! Just where do you republicans think the Cheney's are getting this money?
It was considered bad taste for a Vice President to own stock in a company that has a government contract in Iraq (Halliburton) so what does Cheney do? He sells his stock to his wife.
Our money should be spent on homeland security and not in some god awful mideast hell-hole.
Bush has actually increased the threat of terrorism, and Al Qaeda grows ever stronger in Afghanistan, where we should've stayed.
Most terrorist attacks are thwarted by good police intelligence work, and not by bombing the hell out of nations that never attacked us.
If you still support Bush, you are in the 29% of traitors to our constitution who cannot get their heads unstucked from where the Sun don't shine!
From a proud veteran.

Well the dims are in power!
Didn't the repubs "finish" the Vietnam War by taking credit for the loss of a war that the JFK/LBJ dims escalated?
Thanks, BobW, for setting the record on Carter straight too.
Let me take this moment to remind you of what has happened over the last 60 years. We won WWII. No problem. Then 20 years later, a skirmish in S.E. Asia crops up, and JFK/LBJ decide that they can embrace the SAME tactic as FDR/Truman in Europe and Japan - Destroy and Rebuild. Nope! Not going to work! NVA hand us our butts, and we whimper away and leave millions of human beings to suffer and die under communism.
Then 40 years after the dustup in S.E. Asia began, we get another opportunity in the Middle East to build a democracy, but NOW we are going to utilize a NEW doctrine: the BUSH Doctrine.
The administration has cast aside the FDR/Truman Doctrine because it didn't work in S.E. Asia and has embraced a new doctrine that involves the people who live there more than the FDR/Truman doctrine did.
Once we establish a working/self-sustaining government, we are out of there. We'll leave it up to the liberals who are still arguing over the definition of "is" to decide what to do.
What do we get for all this effort? Well, we will establiush two nacent democracies to the east and west of Iran, and the Iranians will see these people living and thriving under a NEW form of representative government and want it for their families and themselves.
MANY innocent Iranians will die in this struggle against whatever part of the Iranian military remains loyal to the leadership, but it will work.

Pandering to the voters to look like they are concerned for the nation's safety. It won't work. Your top commucrat leaders have let the cat out of the bag several months ago. They want all efforts to secure America to be stopped, i.e. wire taps, terrorist profiling, border seizures and on and on. Their flip flops did them wrong on this one. They should have just kept their mouths shut, but they opened them and let their communist views out. Hey, but don't worry. Uncle Fred will make it all alright over the next 8 years. So just sit back and relax while the republican party secures our country.

Better check your history. Dems got us into Vietnam. It took Nixon to get us out. He was a Republican, by the way. Jimmy Carter seriously screwed up the nation. It took Ronald Reagan two terms to straighten that out.

You cannot be further from correct. Homeland security is the responsiblity of the Executive Branch. The Judicial Branch is overstepping it's bounds again. Congressmen cannot tell the President how to do his job.

Almost every Democrat voted against the "John Doe" amendment, which stops citizens from being sued when reporting suspicious behavior.

I'll have to read this. However, had Bush pressed for it, you Dems would have been slamming him for using 'scare tactics'. Don't tell me you wouldn't, because I've read enough about that right here on this forum!!!!
