In some parts It's used to call someone you see across the road like you call out....... Yahoooo! So an apt name I think that this company chose for it's brand name!

Sounds plausible and in fact Yahoo IS a sign of greeting.

do not pass go has the right answer but I don't know whether the founders of yahoo took the name from Gulliver's Travels or whether it's just a coincidence. Perhaps they just made up the name because it sounded like a fun name! Does anyone know?

Sometimes people say "Yahoo!" when they're really happy about something. It's just an expletive like "Yippee!".

Also, "yahoo" is slang that means someone who is different or does something stupid as in: "That yahoo ran the stop sign and didn't even slow down!"
