You can take Tylenol. Mydol has a teen version that is specially formulated to help you deal with this. If you don't have a way to get medication, then try this...
Take a hand towel and microwave it until it is hot, but not scalding. Lay comfortably (often laying on your stomach helps) with the hot hand towel against your lower abdomen. This is an easy solution when you do not have a heating pad. You can also stand in a hot shower and let the water hit your abdomen. Take off any tight clothing... sometimes even panties can make it feel worse. When you have a chance to get to the store you can buy Mydol Teen, a heating pad, and there are even some creams the pharmacist can point out that when applied directly to the abdomen can help relieve painful cramping. If your cramping is severe, you should see a gynecologist. There are medications he/she can prescribe to lessen the pain and make your period shorter. Some women have severe menstrual cycles that need medical attention. It is important to discuss excessive cramping with your dr.

The overwhelming choice of my female patients for cramp pain is ibuprofen (Advil or Midol). Advil has generics that are a lot cheaper, but Midol has added ingredients for bloating if your clothes are fitting tighter... The hot towel idea is used by many, many women with good effect.

Don't be surprised if your periods are very inconsistent over the first couple years... some will longer, heavier and crampier... some will come closer together... you might have some spotting or light cramping in mid-cycle as your body begins to release eggs (it probably isn't quite yet)...

A lot of girls take after their mothers and grandmothers when it comes to the severity of periods, so ask yours, and you will probably gain a lot of insight...

If it's your first period you shouldn't have a tampon. They are completely uncomfortable if you don't put them in right. I'd go with pads on my first. Midolis best for periods. TAke a hot shower. It helps the cramps but might make ou bleed more. Or rest. Lying down helps. Trust me.

The tampon doesnt matter.

I didnt cramp on my first period, but it cramps slightly worse with every cycle (then after a few cycles itll stop hurting, then start again). I just take Ibuprofen. I mean, I get cramps in my back instead of my stomach, but your otcm (over the counter med.) pain killer will kill any menstrual pains.

If you're interested in alternative medicines, I'll suggest something called "Cramp bark." You can get it in any health food store. It's a liquid, and you put a few drops in a glass of water and drink it. It always helps me. Women were using that before anyone ever thought of aspirin.

take pain medication, like advil.
also, excersie relieves cramps.
and if they are really bad, rest helps too, take a short nap.
since your tub isn't right you could try a hot shower.
your tampon has nothing to do with it.

i'd get some bananas for the rest of your period.

the trick is Aleve/Ibruprofen, and a warm meal. cuddle up after that and watch tv. try pads if tampons are uncomfortable for you.
