ARod was on deck when the 28-June game was suspended.
MLB's rules state that all stats from a suspended game, once completed, count as having occurred on the original start-of-play date.
So, IF Rodriguez goes deep in the completion of the suspended game tonight, that homer goes in the books as having been hit on June 28th, which then becomes (on paper) his 493rd homer, and bumps up each of his subsequent homers -- so, his 499th hit a few days ago becomes his 500th.
And a new, everlasting footnote / trivia question will be born.
Ta-dah!

If he hits one it will count for the day the game took place. So it will count as his 493rd or something like that which would make his 500th the last one he hit against the Royals a few days ago.
check out the link, they have a video explaining it.

According to the record books, the suspended game's statistics are applied to the the day the game started. That is why his 499th could become his 500th, in the record books at least.

If he hits one tonite in the suspended game they will celebrate it as # 500 but in the stat books it will go down as being hit on Jun 28 as homerun 493. His homer against KC would become the "official" # 500. This is because all stats in suspended games are applied to the date the game was originally played.

It will still count as his 500th Homerun if he somehow gets the Homerun on the suspended game.

no it will count as number 493 because the game started like june 28th so number 500 would be wednesday's homer against gil meche.
and thats only if he hits one out in the suspended 8th inning game, where he is on deck...so he is guarenteed a plate appearance since he can still bat in the 9th even if he somehow doesn't get up in the 8th.

A-Rod already had a HR in that game but since they didn't finish the game they couldn't finish the stats. So regardless if he hits one tonight or not he will have his 500th.
