Forced might not be the right word, trained or taught to fight might be better. Although, considering dogs cannot just move out when they are kept in cages by their owners and cannot chose not to be trained then forced really does seem to be the best word.

I think you are wrong! Perhaps CNN should have used the term "Trained" to fight rather than "Forced". You can train just about anything including humans to do certain things when faced with certain situations. They torment and torture these dogs to learn how to defend themselves. They starve them and then put them in a cage with another very week dog to teach them to fight over food etc. This gives them a taste of blood and fighting, pretty soon that is all these dogs know.
If you were abused, beaten tortured and starved for food you would get pretty grumpy too. Imagine you were in a cell and you haven't eaten for days then they put your favorite food in front of you and then they throw another weaker person who is also Hungary...the strongest most aggressive person is gonna eat. Now maybe you could be civilized and share the food but what if you didn't have those skills and you didn't know if you were gonna eat again for days or at all i think even you would be surprised at what you would do.
So in a sense you can force just about anything to do just about anything in a given situation.

Well, you're quite wrong. If not trained to fight, these animals will not, simply due to being pit bulls, fight. When not trained, they are actually docile, friendly animals. I have encountered several pit bulls I would not mind having my daughter around. However, due to the strength of the animal, if trained to fight, they make for ferocious fighters. And, once trained, they cannot be untrained. Same with fighting roosters. That is why they have to be put down once rescued from those who made them that way.

Well, if you have a dog that is a fighter and let it attack a dog that doesn't have it "in their blood" - - either the dog fights back or dies. I'd call that being forced.
Because of their structure they are capable of fighting and some people are exploiting that characteristic. Those same people are also breeding the dogs in a way that enhances or encourages that charactieristic. I would also deem that being forced.
I have known very sweet and docile pit bulls. If people bred them for good temperment they would be less likely to fight.

It is obvious that several of the answers on this page are by people who have gathered all there info from PETA, NHS sites.
Animals are not locked in a box and starved, they are not fed fluffy white kittens to be made mean, and they are not put on lab puppies to learn aggression.
Pit bulls who are "game" have a bloodline that consists of "game" studs who are bred with "game or game-producing" gips that create "game" offspring.
(Main Entry: game
Function: adjective
1 a : having or showing a resolute unyielding spirit b : willing or ready to proceed )
These animals are not being "forced" to fight, they are being allowed to.

Zapata, I hate to say it, but you are terribly ignorant about animals. You CAN incite an animal to fight another animal, you CAN train an animal to be vicious, and it isn't necessarily "in their blood". Pit Bulls that are properly raised can be very normal dogs. Pits that are abused and trained to fight will do just that. The dogs aren't going out looking for trouble, their owners find it for them. It's the owners that are the problem. Saying "it's in their blood" is just an excuse to engage in cruel and criminal behavior.

Pitt bulls owned by people who fight dogs train them from the time they are puppies to attack another animal. Pitt bulls that are not trained to fight are some of the nicest animals on the planet.

Yes, you cannot force it to fight. It's is in there blood. But putting it in a situation were fighting is it's only choice, isn't that forcing it to fight?

Is that all you've got?
How about this
they are caged until the moment they are released with another caged and frightened dog whereas both dogs being the type of animal they are fight.
Does that fit your political correctness
If it had been Fox you'd have yelled
