I used to talk to my cousin about my personal problems and issues all the time. She hurt me a month ago with some things that she said. So, I have decided not to talk to her about my personal life anymore.

I don't want to be rude, but I also don't want to talk to her about anything that is too close to me anymore.

I just try to change the subject and say "everything is okay" if she asks. She keeps calling though.

I told her that my daughter was visiting. She is 15 and normally lives with her Dad in another state. She said "Oh, how did that happen" instead of being happy for me.

She also said that she had talked to my brother and that we need to chat sometime?

I try to avoid discussing difficult topics with her since she can be rude and abrasive, but what else can I do?

your personal life is just that "yours"- if someone should ask you can say all is well for this moment- it pretty much closes the subject. Rude and abrasive- its common especially when someone knows you as well as perhaps your cousin. When she broaches the subject of things you do not want to discuss then be honest with her and yourself-- say "I really don't want to discuss it but thanks anyways". This IMMEDIATELY shuts the door of opportunity for any further discussion. Once you apply this THEN IT BECOMES SO MUCH EASIER DEALING WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOUR COUSIN. You have in essence taken CONTROL. If you feel like talking to your brother or cousins then YOU make the decision who you are going to share information with. After all isn't your Business?

Just don't talk to her for a while. Soon she will probably miss you, but for now just ignore her calls. If you need to vent to someone then vent to your mom or dad or siblings or even your husband. Those are the only people that I really b i t c h to because it seems like when you vent to friends they just seem to get sick of it.. they just want to hear good things even if your life isn't always good. I understand how you feel because my friends are the same way. I like to vent to my immediate family because what can they do? Not like me? They HAVE to like me :)

Stick to your guns. Protect yourself. If you do not feel comfortable talking to her, then don't.
