I have a 95 Lebaron. It's only doing this like maybe 5% of the times I drive it, but it still has me a little concerned. Sometimes when I go to start my car, when I put it in drive and give it a little gas, the car lurches forward all of a sudden. After that it won't shift. If I park the car and turn it off for a minute or two, it stops and drives normally again. It never has the problem when driving for a distance, just after it starts up. What could it be and should I worry about it? the car is old with quite a few miles on it (118K). should I get it fixed ASAP?

Have it checked at a transmission shop. It may be sticking shift valves inside. You might try a transmission additive to help unstick things. If that works get the transmission fluid changed, that should be done every 3 years or so anyway. Been a mechanic for 36 years.

Trans rebuild will cost more than the car is worth. Could be lots of things. First check the fluid. Thats the easiest, and you can do it youself. If it's low add some. And oh yeah, in a chrysler, your car has to be runing, and in neutral. Thats only for a chrysler though, except honda. It has to be off. All other only have to be running. If it's full, you can try a trasmission flush. If it doesnt work, no need to spen a grand on a car thats may be worth 500. No offense.

IT SOUNDS LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, POSSIBLY SHIFT DOWN CABLE STICKING OR BAD SOLENOIDS, TO AWNSER THE QUESTION OF WHETHER YOU SHOULD FIX IT, A 95 LABARON HAS HARDLY ANY VALUE, MAYBEE $1500 IN GOOD RUNNING CONDITION TAKE THE CAR TO A REPUTABLE REPAIR SHOP AND GET AN ESTIMATE IF THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS MORE THAN A 1,500 TRADE IN THE CAR AND GET SOMETHING WITH A WARRANTY THAT WAY THE NEXT TIME SOMETHING BRAKES IT SHOULD BE COVERED. Maintenance first...if you haven't had the transmission flushed in 30k miles, do that before you do anything else. It'll run you about $90 at a lube shop. Have them do the service where they drop the pan and replace the filter and gasket.

Yes you should have it fixed. Hard to tell what the problem is by talking, the transmission may need service or it could be something in the throttle. Be careful!

Take it and get the transmission diagnosed at a transmission shop. Have them check all vacuum lines and shiftpack solenoid (only if it is an automatic).

Sounds like your fluid is low and with the heat its expanding and working fine. Check when trans fluid is hot and engine running. If that don't work then you need to take it in for a flush.

Try a transmission addative that helps loosen sticky valves. If that does not work, then get it checked out.
