The local numbers are better for a deal than the 800 numbers.
I know those websites say they'll get you a deal, but go straight to the source. Call the hotel/casinos directly and drop balls. Don't book Friday or Saturday nights if you can help it - weekday rates are often half as much.

The Stratosphere is decent and a good price, but any room out here is pretty much the same unless it's a suite.

Better deals are when there's no major events (NFR, etc.) in town and some weekends have way more conventions planned than others (I don't know how to check convention dates - they are ALWAYS here though).

Sign up for the player's clubs while you're in town so that you can get better deals next time!

Good luck and have fun!

This site uses the search engine "travelaxe" which compares the rates of 15 or so of the best discount travel sites.

My favorite site is
http://www.travelworm.com >They usually either have the best price or are within a dollar.

Use this site to access every hotel/casino web site in LV to compare with the travel sites. Many LV hotels will price match the best online rate you can find for their hotel, that is if they have not already.

Great hotel rates - Try 12/9 - 12/28 for the best room rates of the year or 9/3 - 9/6(4 nights) has some very nice room rates

These hotels are "generally" the least expensive.

El Cortez

On the strip

Off the strip

Sign up for the Imperial Palace's email list on their website www.imperialpalace.com, I find its the best hotel on the strip that offers the best rates, and they will email you special deals every couple of weeks that average about $49/night. You might be able to find rates like $39/night from Expedia but the hotels are OFF the strip and terribly far from anything Vegas has to offer. Stick to the strip! It's the best :D

I'd say the cheapest would be Circus Circus, Tropicana, Luxor, or Excalibur....you maybe able to find some cheap rooms in the old downtown part of Vegas...but it's about a $10-15 cab ride from the main strip.
