Frequently but not always, and yes it is a shame...
... However, not all people are timid little sheep that just blindly follow the flock, just most of them. Some people have the courage to think and act for themselves and as long as this is done in a way that doesn't harm others' ability to think and act for themselves, that should be encouraged.

The thing that makes the bad egg smell will get on the other eggs around it, thereby spreading the smelly badness. Contain the bad egg separately from the good ones...
