Well, first off, its still exciting because you haven't been dealing with it for THIRTY years. After that long, it is a SERIOUS drag.
Next, once you get your period, you become fertile...which means you can get pregnant. While I'm sure you're not interested in sex RIGHT this minute, you will be eventually. And there is nothing more horrifying than being sexually active and NOT getting that period...especially if you don't want to be pregnant!
Or heaven forbid you do eventually want to have a baby and that period becomes a thing to despise because you DO continue to get it, meaning that another month has transpired and you are NOT pregnant as you would like to be.
Then there are all the horrid things that you will have to face...contraception, irregular periods, cramps that are so terrible they double you up, hemorrhaging, PMS headaches, pregnancy and child birth, cravings, infections, female reproductive problems (cysts, dysplasia, etc), weight gain, and on and on and on.
Ooooooo...and let's not forget all the fun that goes along with finally STOPPING your period...menopause isn't just you wake up one morning and you're done. Life goes from one stage of hell to another over a period of YEARS.
It CAN be and often IS that bad and sometimes worse. Look back on this question 20 years from now and tell any of us that it wasn't that bad.

It's different for everybody. Some people have more severe cramps than others.
You know how when you have a big bruise on your leg because you bumped into the coffee table? Then you keep bumping the bruise into the coffee table? It hurts for a minute, but it's more annoying than bad. That's what cramps are like for me. Except not on my leg, lol.
It's not so much the changing of the pad that is a pain. It's the worrying about leaking. If the pad gets filled op, or it shifts around, then you ruin your underwear, your pants or your bed sheets with blood.
Every woman has it. Everybody just deals with it different. Some women like to complain about it. Some women don't say a word because they don't want anybody to even know they are on it. Me? I deal with it. You get it every month, there's nothing you can do about it except deal.
Don't stress about it. It is exciting at first, because it signals a new chapter in your life. It can be inconvenient at times, like in the summer when your friend is having a pool party and you can't go because you are on your period. That's annoying. But you get used to it. If you have any more questions, you should talk to your mom about it. Good luck!

It IS and should be exciting - because it indicates that a woman is probably fertile. But don't be in a hurry either. I started later than my friends too, so I understand how you feel about missing out on a mysterious experience you don't have yet. But I'm sure you get your period when the time is right. And I think you show a lot of maturity by your comments that it isn't that bad . . . Some women complain about the discomfort and inconvenience, but the wonderful mystery of our fertility is an awesome gift!

First it is uncomfortable and until you start using tampons you can't do everything that you normally do. Everyone's period starts at different times so don't feel uncomfortable now because once it starts and you get over the initial shock there is nothing exciting about it. I was in the same situation. All my friends starting getting theirs and mine had not come yet but once I got it I wish I could get rid of it. Just hang in there and if you are underweight that could keep it from starting. When it comes it comes but until then just have fun without it.

You are lucky you don't have it. It truly is a pain in the butt. It's not that bad, but it definitely is not a walk in the park. The cramps are the worst issue for me, especially the first day I get it. Periods last for 3-7 days and lucky me gets them for 6! Changing your pad/tampon isn't so bad, but sometimes when the flow is heavy you have to change more often and pads sometimes make me feel uncomfortable because you feel like you are all dirty and need to jump in the shower! Well, once you get it you will see how I feel....just wait for it...!!!!

No it's really not that bad. Us girls just like to whinge about whatever we can. There are some who get really bad cramps but i've only ever had slight cramps on the first day.
Hey, don't feel immature for not having it yet. It'll come soon enough. I got mine when I was nearly 14

The cramps, the worry about bleeding through the tampon or pad, having to change the tampon/pad, but mainly the cramps.
Wait til you get it. Chances are you will hate it too. It is not exciting. I've done things that were exciting, trust me this isn't one of them.

Everyone matures at their own pace. I knew a girl who got it once that was 8. But some girls don't get it til they're 16, so it's totally normal if you're still waiting for it.
For now, prepare yourself. Put pads in your purse and back pack just in case and love NOT having your period for now, since once you get it, you'll have it for another 40 years, so just don't worry and love life!
Hope I helped! Good luck!

Well, maybe we do exaggerate a little. But, don't be in a hurry to get yours. At first, your like "Oh, this is SO cool, I'm getting my period!" and then you're like "Oh, I wish I never had this... it's getting annoying" enjoy life while you are period-free. Let me tell ya, its not that exciting.

If you want to get your period, stand around next to girls that are currently on their period.
I don't know if it will help, but girls that spend a lot of time together start having it at the same time.
I wouldn't rush it if I were you, though.
Washing & ruining underwear is so annoying!
