A Rotherham mother-of-two was refused the morning-after-pill because the Muslim serving her at Lloyds Chemist said he opposed the drug on 'religious grounds'.
What do people think about this?

EDIT: SLIM WHITMAN - sorry, but you have TOTALLY missed the point of both the news story and my question. The incident had nothing to do with the medical efficacy of the pill, nor with the fact that the woman could go to another chemist. The issue is whether one religion - Islam - should be allowed to trump other people's needs, faiths, rights. That's the situation we're in.

EDIT, HOLLY C - If I ever read a similar story whereby a christian chemist denies a woman the morning-after-pill, you can be sure I'd post the same question! And there is NOTHING racist in my question - I didn't ask it because the chemist was a Muslim; I asked it because I think it was absurd and very wrong and I keep reading more and more of these types of stories; they are happening a lot in the UK right now.

welcome to Londanistan
It's interesting that it should be authors from Muslim backgrounds—Salman Rushdie, Hanif Kureishi, Monica Ali, the broadcaster and co-author of the Policy Exchange report Munira Mirza—who are issuing the warnings. For the British mainstream, multiculturalism has been the official civic religion for so long that any criticism of any minority group has become the equivalent of profanity. And Islamic extremists have long understood that they need only suggest a racial bias—or a hint of the newly invented and meaningless term "Islamophobia"—in order to make the British cough and shuffle with embarrassment.
The Home Office FINALLY announced that over 200 active terrorist cells are being investigated all over the UK. More than any single nation including Pakistan and most Islamic nations.
The UK has also officially granted permission for British Muslim solicitors to bring their religion into the british courts allowing them to wear their veils in court!
The terror situation is out of hand in the UK...no wonder 1 million white Britains left and millions more want to! Londanistan is no longer a fantasy...it is a reality!

If it's his shop doesn't he have the right to stock what he wants? How would you feel if a shop owner stopped selling fireworks on health and safety grounds and someone complained.
If the woman needed it she could have walked to another shop. What actually angers you about this event? Is it the Muslim part? Or the fact a woman from Rotherham couldn't get the morning after pill? If she was more careful then she wouldn't have to go searching for the morning after pill anyway.
At the end of the day people should be allowed to practice what they like, it's called democracy. How would you feel if it was a deeply christian woman refused to dispense the drug? Would you still be offended?

It doesn't matter if the employee was a Muslim, Christian, Jewish or an atheist...what's important is that in this country, we've a separation of Church & State and your personal values and beliefs must never interfere with the rights of other people.
As an employee, that person is obligated to serve the customer. Now, if there were more than one employee at that pharmacy (which usually are), he/she could have given that sale to a different employee who wasn't so fanatic but you simply can NOT violate the U.S. Supreme Court decision and refuse a man her right to choose!
The same ridiculous thing was done by some Christian fundamentalists everyday in this country, as their well planned way of denying a woman her right to choose!
That's totally unacceptable.
It's a women's choice --- NO FURTHER DISCUSSION!

I think he's probably in the wrong on this one.
I bet you wouldn't have seen all this vitriol, however, if your headline had been "Roman Catholic pharmacist refuses to give customer morning-after-pill?"
Some of these people here are so shallow!
EDIT: Your two edits completely contradict one another. Did you ask the question because of the Islamic angle or not? Your first edit claims you did, then your second edit denies it!!
We aren't "Little Miss Clear Thinking" tonight, are we?

Disgusted - what right has he got not to give someone the morning after pill because of his religion. He shouldn't be working in a Chemist if he doesn't believe in giving the drug. Get him out!

Anyone in the medical profession be it doctor, nurse or pharmacist should leave their religion at the door when they start their shift. It might be against theit particular religion to take a certain pill but it is up to the individual and they don't have the right to police what medication we take.
These peopel are meant to be impartial and if they cant be then they shouldn't be doing the job.

Why is it that the muslim faith always seems to be more important in this country than anyone else's. We are not allowed to offend muslims but they are allowed to offend and threat us.
I think its disgraceful that this guy is allowed to get away with dictating what he hands out to the public. He should go live in a muslim country if he feels that way.

Just like christians, Muslims have their share of bullies who think they have the right to ram their religious beliefs down othre people's throats.
Both are just as bad--an intolerant religious bigot is the same, no matter what the label they go by.
This jerk is jno more bigoted, though, than the sleaze who hunt for any story about Muslims that's negative to post around the Internet--meanwhile ignoring stories about the same behavior by so-called "Christians." Bigory is bigotry.

Personally I would have taken my money to another pharmacy and then written a letter to Lloyds head office to complain that you were refused a sale due to the pharmacist's religious background.
On saying that would he have refused to sell someone some andrews antacid to help cure a hangover becuase they had drunk alcohol?
