Hey guys i just bought a Dell Laptop D600 of Ebay.
The laptop came with internall wireless..
Since I'm not at home often I didn't bother to buy a router.
Well when ever I connect to an open server(no security) it connects.
Yet when I go on internet explorer it says "internet explorer can not open the search page"
Can anyone tell me what the problem is because I'm really lost..
I have so much work to do......

Without knowing more about the pc...

Just because it can't connect to that search page, can it connect to any other website.... yahoo.com? If it can, the link is a dud. Change the setting via IE Tools > homepage, put in whatever you want your start page to be. Just make sure it's a fully formed url: http://www.webpagename.co m

does it have a firewall? If it does check the allowed programs?

Open a command prompt and see if you can ping www.yahoo.com just to make sure you are on the Internet. If you get replies then start checking Internet Explorer. Lots of possibilities but I would start by making sure there aren't any proxy servers defined in Internet Options. Click Tools--> Internet Options --> Connections tab --> LAN Settings. Only thing that should be checked is automatically detect settings.

The wireless antenna may be able to connect, but did you get an IP connection?

Next time your trying to use one of these open access points, use the command line command "ipconfig"

start -> run -> type "cmd" when the black screen comes up type ipconfig and see if your wireless adapter was assigned an IP address. If not, there is your problem.

The open server may not be so open;)
