Well... I dont really understand ! Can you help me. OK, you see, I hear people saying that Voldemort created or has (( 7 )) horcruxes. But the thing that I know is that there are only (( 6 )) and that Voldemort didnt succeed is making another one (which would be the 7th cause it would be way to dangerous or whatever). Anyway, so lets see... here are the horcruxes that I know about :
1. Tom Riddle's Dairy
2. The Guant's Ring
3. Nagini
4. Slytherin's Locket
5. Something From Gryffindore Or Ravenclaw
6. Hufflepuff's Cup
And Voldemort's soul itself obviously (the one inside him). So where is the 7th one ? And why are people saying that its Harry ? I thought Harry will live at the end of the book ? Please EXPLAIN !!! Thanks in advance

P.S By the way, I'm still reading the book, I'm still in Chapter: The Wandmaker. So anything beyond this point please dont mention it. I j just NEED to know this. So please, if it contains spoilers try JUST TRY to avoid them. Alright ? Thanks agian

The 7 Horcruxes were :
1.Tom Riddle's diary containing the memory of his 15 yr old self.
2. The Ring which supposedly came down the Slytherin ancestry to Tom's grandfather-Marvolo Gaunt.
3. Salazar Slytherin's locket
4. Helga Hufflepuff's Cup
5. Rowena Ravenclaw's _________ (as you have not finished the book yet)
6. Nagini
7. Harry himself

But then this means that there was no soul left in Voldemort's body which seems odd because if it was so then he should have died when all 7 horcruxes were destroyed or atleast the souls inside them anyways.

Also here inspite of using many of the Hogwart's Founder's things as Horcruxes including 2 of Salazar Slytherin's things(ring and locket), he does not make anything of Godric Gryffindor. Instead the one thing of Gryffindor's-his sword that was left was actually used to destroy quite a few of the horcruxes. Maybe he just considered Gryffindor bravery to be something stupid.

This question was asked 19 hours ago so I think by now you have finished the book :-). So I hope this is not a spoiler for you!

You are correct in listing the 6 horcruxes: the diary, the ring, the snake, the locket, the cup, something from Gryffindor or Ravenclaw and according to the 6th book and Dumbledore, the 7th bit of soul is in Voldemort himself.

However, after reading book 7, were Voldemort's soul split into 7 pieces or 8 pieces?

There were Tom Riddle's diary, Gaunt's ring, Nagini the snake, the Slytherin's locket, the Hufflepuff cup, the Ravenclaw diadem and the Gryffindor's horcrux in the form of Harry. That accounts for 7 bits of Voldemort's soul.

But didn't Voldemort have to have a bit of his soul within in order to live?

Technically, Voldemort only intintionally made six horcruxes. The diary, Marvolo's ring (vvvvveeeeerrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy special beyond a horcrux), Hufflepuff's cup, Ravenclaw's diadem, Slytherin's locket, and Nagini. The first five were made before Voldemort tried killing Harry as a baby, and that lead to an unintentional horcrux.

As you've already learned from early in the book, anytime you make a horcrux you destabalize your soul pretty badly. From the sounds of it, it's even worse than simply tearing apart your sould by committing murder. When Voldemort created five horcruxes, he made his soul so terribly unstable that it could split apart and make a horcrux on it's own should something misfire with any of Voldemort's spells that would result in the destruction of his body. Enter his failed attempt to kill Harry. When his killing curse backfired and he was reduced to less than the meanest spirit, a part of his soul seperated and sought out the only living being with a physical body. Sadly this was Harry.

So, what I had been saying before the books release about Harry not being a horcrux was both right and wrong. I was wrong that he was not a horcrux, but I was right that Voldemort had not intended to make him one. He didn't even know he'd done so. Since he does seek to protect Nagini, it's clear he feared she'd be killed as lost to him as a horcrux. He also seeks to make sure Harry can not find and destroy other horcruxes, which again shows he wishes to protect his horcruxes.

There were seven horcruxes. Voldemort split hims soul into 6 pieces, when he was teen, but he he accidentally created a seventh when he tried to kill Harry as a child.

1. Tom Riddle's Dairy
2. The Guant's Ring
3. Nagini
4. Slytherin's Locket
5. Helena Ravenclaw's Diadem (like a crown)
6. Hufflepuff's Cup
7. Harry

SPOILER HERE:
In the end Harry is killed by Dumbledore.. almost. What happens is he realizes he must die for Voldemort to die. As long as Harry is alive, Voldemort will still be living. So he entrusts his friends to kill Nagini, and goes off and accepts his fate, and Voldemort kills him. He then finds himself in King's Cross with Dumbledore, and the piece of Voldemorts soul that was still inside of him. Dumbledore explains that 16 years ago, when Voldemore first fired that Killing Curse at him, that piece of Voldemorts soul was trapped inside Harry, creating the Horcrux that he never meant to make. And, Voldemort took some of Harry's blood because he thought that with the protection of Lily's love as well, he would be indestructibe. However this only intensified the connection between the two. So, because Harry sacrificed himself he now had a choice, whether to return to earth or "go on". He chooses to return and now his soul is all his own, and Voldemort can die. Neville kills Nagini, and Harry kills Voldemort, everythings happy. And the epilogue was dissappointing. THANKYOU AND GOODNIGHT!

ok NO SPOILERS!!!! here

So, the thing is this, Voldemort wanted his soul split seven times because 7 is the most powerful magical number. So he made 6 horcruxes and left a piece in himself, so that way there are 7 pieces. that is all u need to know right now, the rest will be explained to u as u read. Enjoy the book!!!

Harry himself carried a part of Voldemort's soul from the backfiring curse when he was one year old. If you read the book to the end, you will understand Pax - C

Harry IS the 7th Horcrux. Sorry, but there's no way to explain any further without spoiling the whole ending.

Let's put it this way. You'll understand everything you don't in the very final chapters. Don't let anyone spoil it for you! I just finished reading the whole book a few minutes ago and is just wonderful to read it till the end not knowing anything in advance.
