We recently had a death in the family. I'm working on a memory book for the widow (my sister-in-law). In this book I'm including a CD of the music played at the service as well as some songs that he/they held dear. I'd like to put a poem on the CD cover about music and how it can help us remember those we have lost, and that through the person who is so dearly missed is never really gone because of the memories the music brings back.....
I hope I'm being clear with what I'm trying to do.

I don't even know where to begin so please feel free to be creative...

Thank you very much for your help!

Our Song

Play again yesterday's song for me
So I can hear your laughter once again
The way you laughed when it was we
Who used to play it now and then

Take me back to yesterday's refrain
So I can hear your love within its score
Play it again and again until the pain
Is gone from my heart forevermore

It was our song then and it's still ours
A vase of love for our memory's flowers

When you write something like that it always helps just to sit down for 20 minutes and write your heart out, without lifting your fingers from the board, or your pen from the page- even if you don't use most of it, it will get you into the right spot for writing.-you will be writing out of what you feel deep down. then take that material and go through looking for what best articulates what you want to give.
as for me being creative, if I were in that spot-
'Although you cannot see him
and though you feel alone
with music shared and melodies
you are connected in the soul
by memories and . . . i don't know, that is probably lame, but if you can top it I have helped you, in some way that I am not sure of. . . .

thats a very sweet idea.

it's good that you have a starting point.

you should try something simple like a haiku.

its 3 lines long and in a 575 pattern

meaning....

the first line is 5 syllables long
the second is 7 syllables
and the last is 5 syllables

i think theyre short, sweet, and to the point.

example... (though probably not a good one, haha)

the sky is very blue
i love to watch the birds fly
it is relaxing

the(1) sky(2) is(3) ve(4)ry(5) blue(6)
i(1) love(2) to(3) watch(4) the(5) birds(6) fly(7)
it(1) is(2) re(3)lax(4)ing(5)

i hope that helps

good luck

I'm very sorry for your loss, as well. Believe me, I know what it's like to have a death in the family. These are songs I've heard at funerals before...(maybe they can give you an idea)

Try:
My Immortal - Evanescence
We Belong Together --Mariah Carey (for a spouse, usually)
Every Breath I Take --P. Diddy

Well, I think I know an absolutely beautiful poem along this theme, but it's really very long. Maybe you could read it over and choose a selection from it?

It's call The Barrel-Organ, by Alfred Noyes. If you search for it online, you can find it easily.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I'm sorry for your loss, here's an idea:

It's hard to let someone go
However hard we try
We've loved them, we'll miss them
But it's time to say goodbye

Start with that, and see where you can go from there.
